#EndSARS: Governor Uzodinma Reacts to Northern Governors’ Call for Social Media Regulation

As the controversy stirred by Northern Governors and traditional rulers after their call for the regulation of social media in Nigeria the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has added his voice to the debate.

Blaming the use of social to incite as responsible for the destructions of public and private properties during the recent #EndSARS protests across the country, Governor Uzodinma backed the call for the regulation of social media in the country.

He spoke on Thursday while playing host to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu in the state.

Regretting the death of some police officers in the hands of hoodlums who hijacked the protests, the former federal legislator said, “I am strongly advocating that social media should be regulated in Nigeria.

“Opposition party incited hoodlums to cause trouble in Imo,” he alleged.

The governor stated that the “real protesters” went off the street after he addressed them.

Governor Uzodinma then assured of the state government’s preparedness to support security agencies to effectively discharge their duties of protecting lives and property of law abiding citizens.

Abuja Business Reports recall that Northern Governors, Emirs and Chiefs had met in Kaduna recently and called for the regulation of social media in Nigeria, which is generating controversy.
