The Chairman Senate Committee on the Nigerian Navy, Senator George Sekibo has said the return of the Petroleum Industry Bill to the Senate by President Buhari for consideration and passage is a rare opportunity for Nigeria to get things right in the oil and gas sector.
Reacting to the resubmission of the PIB to the National Assembly for further legislative action, Senator Sekibo recalled that it was first introduced to the 6th Assembly in 2008.
According to him; “The stakeholders were not able to reach a compromise and that attempt did not see the light of day”.
The Senator who is representing Rivers East Senatorial District said, “even the attempt to break it up to different aspects with the passage of the governance aspect of the bill became statute barred as the 8th Assembly had elapsed”.
